It starts. From July 8, the first online lesson begins with the free online micro-history and cartoon techniques course within Cartoon World Challenge My covid in comics, coordinated by Cefa Onlus in collaboration with Ya Basta Caminantes Association.
More than 90 members from 11 countries on 4 continents (Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Iraq, Guatemala, Ecuador, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Italy, Mozambique) have chosen to participate in training sessions and meetings during the month of July 2020 online which will be created by the cartoonist Claudio Calia.
The lessons will range from the history of the evolution of comics, to the protagonists and characteristics of this particular language. In-depth analyzes of individual multimedia topics will be accompanied by exercises, constant interaction with the trainer Claudio and moments of live discussion. A rich path, which untangling between time zone differences and various languages, will lead the participants to develop a comic dedicated to telling the present and the future over time of # Covid19. All the tables will be collected in an ebook.
Who are they and what has driven many to join this innovative adventure?
To understand this, we leave the word to them through what they wrote in the accession formats, accompanied by drawings and suggestions.
We all need a little creativity in life.
Participants include women and men, adults and young people, the age range varies from forty to adolescents. People who already have experience and others who will try for the first time to experiment with comics.
Anyone who drew as a child and sees on this occasion the possibility of starting over and who works with drawings and graphics. Who wants to learn new things and who wants to specialize. Who breaks his work routine and who will use what he learns to socialize it with his students. Who is a writer and illustrator and wants to combine the two. Those who want to understand the origins of comics, go to the roots and those who have left their permanent job and want to invent a new job outlet.
All and all united by passion and desire to get involved.
Telling untold stories
If you scroll through the different writings there is no indistinct babel of thoughts. It is as if, in different latitudes and cultures of origin, that artistic language that is called comics, cartons, bands dessinée or as you want to call it in different languages, is clearly identified as a powerful storytelling and communication tool.
A language that is art and a form of denunciation, which allows you to use different techniques to show current reality, which can have a strong impact on social aspects.
An expression and storytelling, which stimulates the imagination, which binds feelings, emotions and real contexts, which can help to overcome stereotypes and encourage inclusion.
Life: a portal open to new experiences
The many thoughts behind the clicks of sending the membership online flow towards a word: opportunity.
Participation in the Challenge is an opportunity to broaden knowledge and be able to share it, improve techniques, enhance skills and competences, practice and new experiences, enhance your talent. An opportunity to expand working potential, for example by reconciling the career of design and that of artist, or to become a cartoonist tout court.
The Challenge is the opportunity to do something that interests you, starting from your own personal passion, combining the taste of drawing and learning at the same time. Do it through the support of an expert, in a free course to get to make your own stories, whether you are a pioneer of comics, a language perhaps still little used in your country or that you live in a country where comic books they have their place in bookstores and the ninth art has developed (... as long as it suits us to accept the "famous list" which sees comics in ninth place after architecture, painting, sculpture, music, poetry, dance, cinema, radio and television ).
All definitions, phrases and words of this article are exclusively of the participants. It’s just a collage.
So as they wrote directly to them:
